[Jenkins Mantle] This client's interior is furnished in the Arts and Crafts style. They wanted a 'beefy' mantle of substance that would compliment that style. That aesthetic being of particular interest to us, we knew where to do our homework. Greene and Greene, Stickley, and a little Frank Lloyd Wright research led us to this original design. All three designers and their Arts and Crafts brethren were influenced by Asian style and architecture. So it is no surprise that this mantle evokes a sense of "temple."
6' 2" high x 7' 2" wide x 1' 9" deep, this object commands focus of its room. The matererial is agricultural recycled oak timbers. Because of our association with an out of state mill that specializes in this kind of material, we are able to obtain wood of this great size without the lag of kiln time associated with freshly milled timbers. Recycled wood is already dry and ready to machine. The mantle is finished with a food safe, linseed based oil.
A chocolate granite from Cleveland Granite and Marble was used for the hearthstone. Below the hearthstone, the surround, and upper frieze have all been tiled with slate by the client. |
